OHSC Makes the News

To: All Oak Hollow Sailing Club members:
We (OHSC) were contacted this week by the High Point Enterprise, as it prepares its annual issue of “Everything High Point”, which is a booklet about community, religious, recreation, etc. options that are available in High Point. The issue is free to High Point Enterprise newspaper subscribers, and will be available for purchase at news stands. The issue is set to go to press this weekend and should be included in subscribers’ newspapers on Monday, June 11th, if the information I was given is correct.
We submitted nine photos to the editor for consideration, and we are on the short list of three photos to make the cover of the publication. The photo they liked best of ours was taken by our committee boat volunteers during our August 2011 Regatta, (Melissa, Rosalie, and Kate). The editor I spoke with was pushing for our photo to be the cover shot, but she is NOT the senior editor, so our chances of getting the cover are 33%, at best.
Supposedly there will be a short writeup in the publication about Oak Hollow Sailing Club, which will talk about our mission, activities, teaching, regattas, and refers to our website.
Hopefully, the information given to me was accurate – keep your eyes open for the publication next week.
Thanks!
Paul Walter
P.S. Thank you, Brad M., for directing the editor to us!

June 2nd Sailing and Lessons

Near perfect weather forecast for easy sailing tomorrow.
We will be having 6 to 8 new members coming out for lessons/training @ 1pm marina side. Some of us will be heading out a little earlier to prepare.
Come on out and enjoy some open sailing with us !
Also extra help with the new members is always useful.

Join Us for the May Regatta

To All Oak Hollow Sailing Club Members:
We hope you all will join us for our May Regatta this Saturday, May 19th, at the Sailing Point Marina, with Captain’s Meeting scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the shelter.  First race will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Current forecast for our race hours on Saturday call for 8 mph NE winds and 76 degrees – we can’t ask for much better!
Chuck and Jerry Eldred will be serving on Race Committee (thanks, guys!) and Leslie Humphries will be providing refreshments (thanks, Leslie!).
We have heard from eight Captain’s (so far) who plan to race, and we are hoping for several more.  If your schedule allows, come out and join us!
If you have never been in a regatta before, don’t let that deter you – the rules are simple, and we will cover the basic ones in the Captain’s Meeting, and will answer any questions that our “first-timers” might have.
Sincerely,
Paul Walter

Busy Week Ahead !

To: All Oak Hollow Sailing Club Members:
Next week (May 14, through May 20) will be our most exciting (and busy) week of the year! We hope to have as much participation in the following events as each of your schedules’ will allow:
Open House for anyone interested in learning to sail: Tuesday, May 15th, 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Hollow City Marina building (Meeting Room): It’s not too late to invite any of your friends and family members who might like to learn to sail, or who just want to see if they might enjoy it. In the past, word-of-mouth advertising has been the most effective way to get folks to attend the Open House. All of our current members are encouraged to attend so that prospective sailors can meet us and learn about the club, and get a brief introduction to the sport. We will have light snacks and drinks.
Board Meeting: Wednesday, May 16th, 6 p.m. at Barnes and Noble
May Regatta: Saturday, May 19th, North (Sailing) Marina, 10:30 a.m. Captain’s Meeting: We will be inviting attendees at the Open House to join us for this event, so if you need crew, and/or don’t mind guests on your boat, we may have some folks who would like to sail with you.
Fun Day: Sunday, May 20th, North Marina, 11 a.m. until we decide to eat pizza later in the afternoon: This is our opportunity to teach the basics of sailing to interested newcomers. Some might just want to “check it out” to see if they think they will like it – others may already know that they want to learn (and make it a hobby). Last year, we had several people join the club after just taking a sailboat ride with a member. We hope as many of our members as possible can be there for this event – this is our best chance as a club to demonstrate our mission of “promoting and enjoying the sport of sailing”.
Thanks!
