OHSC Banquet: IMPORTANT Information!

OHSC Banquet: IMPORTANT Information!

The Oak Hollow Sailing Club end of year banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening, November 22, at the Fire and Sticks Restaurant, 3917 Sedgebrook St., High Point, NC, beginning at 6 pm. This is a fun and important event for the club each year, as we have the opportunity to get together as friends and club members to relive our sailing season, and to begin to prepare for our next year. We will recognize our top performing sailors, and hold a short business meeting, primarily to elect our 2015 officers and board members.
The club added 21 new members/member families in 2014, and we hope to see our new folks at this event! Due to the rapid growth that OHSC has had in the past few years, we have changed restaurants for this event. We outgrew the capacity at the Golden B, who handled us the past few years.
Fire and Sticks can handle 60 of us in one of their back rooms, so we will be “selling” advance tickets to the banquet for $20 per person to the first 60 who purchase them. The club will pick up the additional cost. The ticket will cover your cost for dinner and non-alcoholic drinks (there will be a cash bar available), tip, and entry into a drawing for a few door prizes.
Tickets MUST be purchased in advance, and before November 16th (cash or check to “Oak Hollow Sailing Club”). Here is how:
Linda Marsh is handling the sale of banquet tickets. If you want to buy them in person, we have three dates for you to do that:
Wednesday, October 15: Board Meeting at Barnes and Noble in High Point, from 6 to 7 pm (inside the store front left where we meet)
Saturday, October 18: Regatta at Oak Hollow, 10 am to 10:30 am
Saturday, November 8: Inter-club Regatta at Oak Hollow, 10 am to 10:30 am
To purchase by mail, you can send a check made out to “Oak Hollow Sailing Club” for $20 per person attending from your family. (If you are a single, you may also purchase a ticket for one guest). Mail to:
OHSC, c/o Linda Marsh, 4904 Carolwood Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407
When we are approaching 60 who have paid, we will send out an email advising everyone that we are close to being full, so you can make a final decision.
We hope to have a great turnout to cap off a great sailing season!
Sincerely,
Paul Walter

End of Season Important Dates

OHSC’s 2014 Season is winding down with three important dates remaining on the calendar.
Saturday, October 18th:   Final regular season regatta
Saturday, November 8th: Inter-club Regatta against Lake Townsend Yacht Club (we host at Oak Hollow Lake)
Saturday evening, November 22: Annual Dinner and Awards Banquet, and election of 2015 officers and board members
We will send out more information about each event individually, but here is a quick summary of each one:
October Regatta, October 18:
This will be our final regular season regatta, after which we will tally our full season points and determine our top 5 sailors for the year, who will be recognized at the banquet on November 22.  We are still in need of at least one person to assist with Race Committee scoring to help Melissa Palmer and Abby Roletter.  Also, we need a volunteer to help with morning refreshments on October 18th.
Inter-club Regatta with Lake Townsend:
This is our year to host this annual event.  This is our most “serious” regatta of the year, as it is for bragging rights for the next 12 months.  It will be handicapped scored just like our regular season regattas, but we will score the top 5 finishers from each club to arrive at a weighted total score for each club.  Although three races are typically run, one club will be the overall victor for the day, based upon overall scoring, and that club will “hold” the trophy for the next 12 months.  Lake Townsend has held the trophy for many consecutive years, so we have our work ahead of us.
Many volunteers are needed for this day for refreshments, sign-in, and race committee.  Please contact me if you are willing to help – this can include sailors who may decide not to sail, and friends or family members who aren’t sailing.  We usually have over 20 boats in this event, and could have closer to 30 this year with the increase in participation that we have had in 2014.
Annual Banquet on November 22:
This year we are holding our annual dinner, awards banquet, and officer and board election at Fire and Stix restaurant in High Point, beginning at 6 pm.  We moved to a larger venue due to the increase in our membership.  The club will be picking up a portion of the cost this year and in order to facilitate the handling of the payment to the restaurant, we will be collecting our members’ and their families’ payment upfront.  We have a maximum headcount of 60, and you will need to buy a ticket before November 16th, for each person in your family who plans to attend.  Tickets will be $20 per person, which will include eligibility for drawing for some nice door prizes, your meal and non-alcoholic drinks and tip. There will be a cash bar available before the meal. More information will be sent out about this event regarding how and when to purchase your tickets, but please hold on to the date.  This is one of our best opportunities for fellowship during the year and to recognize our new members and our top performing sailors!
Thanks!
