This Saturday, July 20th, is our July Regatta. Captains’ Meeting at 10:30. All boats planning to participate should be rigged and ready to sail BEFORE the meeting.
Race Committee will be handled by Linda Marsh, John Fulcher, and Chuck Eldred. Refreshments to be provided by Connie. Thank you ladies and gentlemen!
Forecast conditions (as of Tuesday’s long range forecast) are expected to be 9 to 10 mph winds, with a high of 89 – just about perfect for a July racing day! We have a few new member boats in the fleet since our June regatta, and we hope to see them on the water. Carl and Lois Simmons transported their 19′ Lightning from Maine, Gene Eldred has added a 14′ Hobie catamaran to his fleet, and Tom Kirkman picked up a 14′ WETA trimaran yesterday (to add to his fleet of trimarans). All three of these are fast boats, and it will be fun to have them in the regattas with us. (We haven’t found a handicap rating for Jerry’s new “baby catamaran”, so he will likely be sailing his Aquacat in the regatta).
The Sunfish has been rented for the regatta (Whitney DuPont), but for any member wanting to captain a boat, the 15′ Harpoon is available to rent for $25. It is in great condition, and sails beautifully. Let me know if you are interested in renting it.
Hoping to see a big turnout on Saturday!
Thanks,
Paul Walter
Oak Hollow Sailing Club held its June 2013 Regatta on Saturday, June 15th. A beautiful day greeted 23 of our members who arrived. Our newest members, Bill and Janet Inmon, and Genell Hartman attended, and the Inmons crewed with Melissa Palmer. We had a guest, John Andrews (Phil’s Dad) visiting from Pennsylvania, who joined us on the water in Phil’s Sunfish. We had 17 member boats represented, with 14 participating in at least one of the three races which were held. Mike DuPont and Chuck Reavis raced for the first time in 2013.
Thank you to Mike and Marie Schram for furnishing refreshments, and to Art Martz and Les Eger (and their pet snake they found in the Race Committee boat) for handling RC duties. We were able to hold three races with West winds varying between 4 and 8 mph.
Congratulations to race winners Phil Andrews (Races 1 and 2) and Mike Nordahl (Race 3). Also, Andy Squint had two top 4 finishes in Races 2 and 3, which were excellent results for a Hobie 18 in the wind conditions and relatively tight courses required on Oak Hollow. Way to go guys!
Thanks to all who participated. It was a great day on the lake!
