LYTC Keeps the Cup

Congratulations to Lake Townsend Yacht Club for their November 10th victory over Oak Hollow Sailing Club in the Annual Inter-Club Regatta between the two clubs. Twenty-two boats participated in the regatta (11 from each club) and Lake Townsend once again won all three races and held onto the trophy for another year. (Scoring is attached).

All of us at Oak Hollow Sailing Club congratulate LTYC, and we thank all of your sailors, family and friends who participated. We had a beautiful day, good sailing, great fellowship, and good food.

We would like to thank all those who brought food and drinks, and we especially thank Connie Sloan for her homemade breakfast baked goods and setting up for our pre-race food and refreshments. Also, thank you to our race committee for giving of their time to set up the courses and to record our times. Craig, Bo, Bob, George, and Linda, thank you from all of us who were able to sail while you kept us organized!

We look forward to sailing at Lake Townsend in 2013!

Sincerely,

Paul Walter, OHSC Commodore

Nancy Valego, OHSC 2nd Vice-Commodore

2012 Season Final results posted !

We had a great October regatta and a awesome 2012 season.

The final regular season regatta was held today (Saturday, October 20) under beautiful conditions. Sunny skies and average winds between 5 and 8 mph allowed us to run three races. We had 12 boats in all three regatta races, and new members Mike and Marie Schram rented Sunfish to practice during the afternoon.
Chuck and Gene Eldred handled committee boat duties (with help in the first race from Michael Nordahl). Thanks guys – great job! Connie provided the refreshments for us to get the morning started off right – thanks Connie!
We had some of the best racing of the season, with some close racing throughout all three races, and some close finishes, both with and without handicaps. Congratulations to Nancy Valego for winning all three races! Congratulations also to Tait and Ty Humphries for three top 4 finishes, to Melissa Palmer and Rosalie Austin who sailed the club’s Harpoon 4.6 to two top 3 finishes, to Art Martz for two top 5 finishes and to Jerry Eldred who sailed a great Race 3, crossing first, and finishing second in the handicap scoring to Nancy.
This was a great end to our regular regatta season! Thanks to all who sailed and participated

Next up, The annual OHSC – LTYC Interclub Regatta !

To all club members and guests:

We are scheduled for our final regular season regatta tomorrow, (Saturday, October 20th) at the North Marina at Oak Hollow Lake, with Captains Meeting scheduled for 10:30 a.m. This will be a great opportunity to tune up your boats and practice for the inter-club regatta against LTYC on November 11. Let’s try to have boats rigged and in the water by 10:30 a.m.

The weather will be crisp and beautiful and the trees around the lake are showing their color, so it will be a spectacular day on the water tomorrow! We hope to see as many of you there as possible – so far I know of at least 10 boats who plan to sail, and I’m hoping for closer to 15. The club boat is already committed for the regatta (and for the interclub on Nov. 11) but the City is renting Sunfish for anyone who wants to sail, but doesn’t have a boat.

Gene and Chuck Eldred are handling committee boat duties – thanks guys! And Connie will be providing refreshments for us when we arrive and begin rigging – thank you Connie!

Will see you there tomorrow morning!

Paul

Important events ahead…

Our 2012 season is on its final leg with three final scheduled dates. Please put these on your calendars!
Final regular season regatta: Saturday, October 20th
Interclub Regatta with Lake Townsend Yacht Club: Saturday, November 10th
Year-end members banquet and awards: Saturday evening, November 17th
We have 21 new member families who joined OHSC in 2012, and we hope as many of our membership as possible will be able to join the fun for these final three events of 2012. More details will be sent out for each of these events as details are finalized by the board and committees.
Following are some special invitations (requests for help):
Inter-club regatta on November 10th at Oak Hollow Lake: (We host this year’s regatta). We have contacted one past member and also have one current member committed to help with scoring of the races. We could use some additional organizational help on that date from anyone who doesn’t plan to sail in the event, but who would like to participate in the event. The inter-club regatta typically draws between 20 and 30 sailboats from the two clubs, and is a fun day to socialize and race with our neighboring sailing club. OHSC will be trying to take back the trophy that has been held for several years by LTYC. Please let me know if you are available to help us with our hosting and scoring duties for this event.
Last weekend we completed the teaching of the 2012 HPU Sailing Class. Special thanks go out to Nancy Valego for another successful year of providing the instruction and coordinating the efforts. Thank you also to all the members who volunteered their time on the Saturdays from August 25th to October 6th, to assist with the on-the-water instruction.
We should have a few good sailing dates left in October, and we still have a few new members who would like to get some basic instruction. We need some of our experienced sailors who could volunteer a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday in October, to assist with this training. Please let me know if you are available to help with this, and on what dates in October you could be available (Oct. 13, 14, 21, 27, 28).
Thanks!
Paul Walter
